4 of My Favourite Tools for Running a Production Company
Dec 03, 2022Read time: 1.5 mins
In order to run a production company, you'll eventually need to invest in some software.
But finding the right tools can be overwhelming. Not to mention to tech-debt you fall into when you too many tools to your stack.
These days, I try to keep it lean and mean.
With that in mind, here are my 4 must-have tools for running my company:
1. Asana
Asana is a project management tool that helps us manage our slate of projects. We love it because it's intuitive and user-friendly. We manage our slate within our company account. And then we setup a new account for a film and invite key crew in to collaborate.
2. Movie Magic
Budgeting software created by Entertainment Partners. It's the industry standard so everyone accepts it. And it makes budgeting less painful than burning your eyes looking at a spreadsheet (cough: Screen Australia A-Z budget...).
Hot tip: if you're a student, you can access their student pricing.
3. Yesware
Yesware is an email automation and follow up tool that plugs right into Gmail. So the email comes straight from you rather than a CRM. I use this for high volume outreach to sales agents, distributors, investors and filmmakers. This has saved me hundreds of hours.
4. Google Drive
Sometimes, the classics are the classics for a reason. G-Drive is by far the best place to create, store and share your production documents. And I'm talking anything from finance plans, to legal agreements and pitch decks.
We've come a long way since the caves...
I hope you enjoyed today's issue.
